Bo Loho: A Tall, Fun Handwritten Font for Crafty Branding Projects

Bo Loho in Action: Starting with a Blank Brand Board

I recently opened a blank brand board for a small artisanal candle shop looking to refresh its visual identity. The client wanted something warm, personal, and slightly whimsical—something that felt handmade, even if it was professionally designed. I reached for Bo Loho, a tall and fun handwritten font that I’d downloaded a few weeks prior. As a script handwritten font, Bo Loho immediately brought a sense of playfulness and approachability to the brand’s tone. It wasn’t too cursive, not too rigid—it struck that perfect balance between casual and refined.

Bo Loho for Logo Design: A Natural Fit

I dropped Bo Loho into a logo concept mockup, pairing it with a simple sans serif for contrast. The result was surprisingly strong. Bo Loho worked beautifully as a headline font, giving the logo a custom, hand-lettered feel without the need for illustration or extra embellishments. It’s tall x-height made it feel confident, and the subtle bounce in the baseline added a sense of motion and energy. This is a font that shines as a display font or logo typeface—especially for brands that want to feel personable, creative, and just a little offbeat.

Bo Loho in Packaging Design: Adds Personality Without Overpowering

Next, I tested Bo Loho on a packaging mockup for the candle brand. I used it for the product name on the front label and paired it with a clean serif font for the scent description. The handwritten texture of Bo Loho gave the packaging a crafted, boutique feel. It didn’t compete with the minimalist label design—it complemented it. This is a great example of how Bo Loho can be used effectively in product design without sacrificing clarity or professionalism. It’s ideal for handmade shops, small batch producers, and lifestyle brands that want to communicate authenticity.

Using Bo Loho for Social Media Graphics and Website Headers

I also used Bo Loho in a series of Instagram story templates and the website’s hero section. On screen, the font looked crisp and lively. It scaled well both large and small—though I’d caution against using it at very small sizes for long-form text. As a web font, Bo Loho performed reliably across devices and browsers, especially when paired with a system-friendly sans serif. It’s a great choice for social media layouts, digital ads, and landing page headers where you want a touch of personality without losing readability.

Font Pairing with Bo Loho: Finding the Right Balance

One of the most important aspects of using any script handwritten font is knowing how to pair it. Bo Loho pairs exceptionally well with structured sans serif fonts like Montserrat or Lato. If you want a more vintage or editorial feel, a serif font like Playfair Display can work beautifully. The key is contrast—Bo Loho is expressive and organic, so it needs a more neutral companion to avoid visual clutter. This makes it a versatile option for brand identity systems that require both personality and consistency.

Bo Loho for Business Cards and Printed Materials

I also tested Bo Loho on a set of business cards and printed tags. The font translated well into physical form—especially when printed on textured paper. It gave the cards a boutique, handcrafted aesthetic that aligned perfectly with the client’s brand voice. However, I noticed that in very small print (below 8pt), some of the fine strokes started to blend together. This reinforces that Bo Loho is best used as a headline or accent font, rather than for long paragraphs or small body text.

When Bo Loho Might Not Be the Right Choice

While Bo Loho is a versatile and charming font, it’s not a one-size-fits-all solution. It’s not recommended for formal corporate branding, legal documents, or any context where a highly professional, neutral tone is required. It also doesn’t perform well in all-caps settings, as the natural flow of the script gets lost. If you’re working on a project that needs strict readability over long paragraphs or a highly formal tone, you may want to consider a more traditional serif or sans serif font instead.

What to Check Before Using Bo Loho in Client Work

Before finalizing any client project with Bo Loho, I always double-check the font licensing. Since Bo Loho is a commercial font, it’s essential to verify whether the license includes use for web, print, merchandise, and digital products. If you’re designing a brand identity that will be used across packaging, social media, and merchandise, you’ll want to ensure the font’s license covers all those applications. It’s also worth checking if the font includes webfont formats and a range of stylistic alternates, which can add flexibility in use.
